Visit the only divided capital in the world. We enter Lefkosia by driving along the Green Line, the capital's dividing line. Passing by the newly restored Famagusta Gate, we proceed to the Archbishop's Palace where we visit St. John's Cathedral. We then travel to the city center and visit the Byzantine Museum with its priceless and fascinating collection of icons and paintings. Our tour continues to the shopping center and picturesque old quarter of "Laiki Yitonia", where you will have time for lunch and a stroll around the charming winding alleys lined with shops and galleries.
We leave Lefkosia and proceed to the village of Lefkara, which is famous for its handmade lace, known as "Lefkaritika", and silverware. Join us and discover the remarkable history of Paphos. UNESCO World Heritage has added the entire town of Paphos to its World Cultural Heritage List. Today we will visit the house of Dionysos, and admire a series of beautifully preserved mosaics depicting scenes from the Greek Mythology. We then pass the Pillar of St. Paul and visit the Catacombs of St. Solomoni. Our next stop will be the Tombs of the Kings, which are spread over a vast area. These impressive underground tombs date back to the 4th century BC. A short drive takes us to the Agios Neophytos Monastery, founded at the end of the 12th century by the Cypriot hermit and writer Neophytos.
See the "Egkleistra", an enclosure carved out of the mountain, containing some of the finest Byzantine frescoes from the 12th to 15th century. Driving along roads lined with vineyards stretching down to the coast, through the small town of Polis on the northwestern coast, we arrive at our destination the Baths of Aphrodite. Here, at this idyllic spot of unspoiled beauty, the goddess of love Aphrodite used to bathe and refresh herself. Ample time will be given at the nearby beach for lunch and swimming or a walk along one of the many nature trails in the area. On our return journey we will pass through the picturesque village of Latchi and then on to Kathikas village for refreshment, before heading back to Paphos. | Pafos - Kourion |  Discover the legends and history of one of the most beautiful areas in Cyprus
Today you can discover the legends and history of one of the most beautiful areas in Cyprus. Our first stop is at the ancient city of Kourion, a impressive, unspoiled site perched high on the cliff top. Admire the famous Greco-Roman theatre and mosaics, and enjoy the dazzling view. The next stop will be at Aphrodite's Rock, where according to legend the Goddess of Love and Beauty was born from the foam of the sea.
When we arrive in Kato Paphos, we will visit the catacombs of St. Solomoni and the Pillar of St. Paul. Ample time will be given for lunch. Later, we take you for s stroll around the picturesque Paphos Harbour. The tour continues with a visit to the House of Dionysos, a Roman villa with beautiful floor mosaics depicting scenes from Greek mythology. Alternatively, at a small extra cost, you can visit the Paphos Aquarium, which houses an amazing range of sea and fresh water fish. Today you can discover a treasure trove of Byzantine art. As we drive to the picturesque village of Lania, we will take the opportunity to have a coffee break in traditional surroundings. Passing below the Olympus peak of Troodos mountains, we will reach Galata village and visit the church of Archangelos Micheal and the Virgin Mary, completely painted in the post-Byzantine style of the early 16th century. The village of Kokapetria is our next stop. Here the old quarter of the village has been declared a protected area, and traditional houses have been restored. Enjoy a walk around the village and have lunch in one of Kakopetria's restaurants.
After lunch we will move on to one of the most beautiful old villages in Cyprus: the village of Omodhos, which is famous for its true Cypriot architecture, its wine press, known as "Linos", and the monastery of the Holy Cross. A memorable day off the beaten track, through idyllic mountain villages unchanged for generations.We pass just below Mount Olympus - the highest peak in Cyprus, with an altitude of 1951 metres - and take in the panoramic views from Troodos Square. We proceed to "Throni", to see the Tomb of Archbishop Makarios III, the first President of Cyprus.
Enjoy the spectacular views of the countryside and pine forests as we drive to the famous Holy Monastery of Kykkos, which was built in 1902 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It houses one of the three surviving icons painted by St. Luke. A break for lunch will be taken in a nearby restaurant. A panoramic decent will bring you back to your hotel.Please note that modest attire is required when visiting monasteries and churches, i.e. no shorts or low-cut blouses. |
